a poem by John Eric Gulliksen

Quiet glen
within a wooded heart
shines in showers of morning
and here, newness is manifest

Tripping softly on tiny diamond hooves
her dapplings shoot forth rainbowed minions
which spatter, bedazzling, upon the eyes

Now, skittering,
dainty feet give tongue to crystalline melodies
exploring faceted reaches of existence

A gentle nudge - she obtains nourishment
and feeds also the soul of her parent

Limpid eye, quickened ear
search in wonder for being and beauty
as day wanes

and later, as night enfolds the forest,
she will bed beneath her thicket
to eagerly await
