CATHEDRAL
a poem by John Eric Gulliksen

As the sun melts
flowing down my fingertips
I fade
into steepled shadow

Red velvet hangings opress
attempting to ease mortality

Sudden tears wash across your brilliance
It's lonely here
down in the street

Stygian velvet bespotted with jewels
draws perception into roiling depths
losing being in the vortex

and

when golden scintillations again appear
dripping from the outstretched arms of divinity
I find
myself
at the beginning
and the end
