Once I lived at twenty-four
and my door ws always open
to those whose hearts
were in the right place

then one day
a girl walked in
and I married her

That's why
I wrote this poem

TWENTY-FOUR
a poem by John Eric Gulliksen

Twenty-four
eight times three
six times four
multiplicity
chaotic
in confusion

People
run by shouting
steal by whispering
sometimes knocking
on twenty-four

Twenty-four
a timid footstep

Twenty-four
a soft-breathed longing

Twenty-four
and BABIES and STARS and FLOWERS and SONG

and
flame

and then two

and then twenty-four
is
one
