ESSENCE
a poem by John Eric Gulliksen

dart! door to alley
O miasma
push
fly! corner to lamppost
wisp

musky
pungent
the needle moves closer to REDLINE

sweat pours
and pain
scream on the dark walkway
push through REDLINE

don't look - push
run run run RUN
essence of fear

sick-sweet
through redline
charred corpses
as flamebeast roars in shadowed hells

mold, dryness
through blackness
to edge

essence
powder

SING A HYMN! ye damned
sing a song of otherness
essence of death

quiet! quiet!
for in rain, dew, spring or summer air
beforeness becalmed
essence of life
breathed into warmeth, softness

a stirring, cry, sigh, smile
discover
essence of you
essential
to me
